The following steps are necessary in addition to the application for service: Service Line - Application must be made for a service line (the gas line from the street to the house or business).  There may be a charge for the service line based on the connected gas appliances at the time the meter is set and the length of the service line. Inspections - Cobb and Douglas counties require heating, air conditioning, and gas appliance inspections, along with the other building inspections.  This inspection must be complete and Austell Gas System notified by the County or City Inspection Department before the meter can be set.  Austell Gas System personnel must also perform an additional inspection at the time the meter is set.  The System's inspection is primarily aimed at safety. Meter Set - At least one (1) day's notice is required after application for service for scheduling a meter set.  Meter sets are normally scheduled Monday through Thursday by contacting the main office.
